Head of EU Foreign Affairs Sector at French General Secretariat for European Affairs Cédric Manuel held lecture at MFAEI entitled “French System of National European Affairs Coordination”

State Secretary for European integration Andrej Plenković delivered opening remarks about the Croatian model of European affairs coordination at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

State Secretary for European integration Andrej Plenković delivered opening remarks about the Croatian model of European affairs coordination at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. He sad that the French experiences, in light of France’s well-developed state tradition and administrative culture, could be of great use to Croatia, pointing out the key role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in that process.

The present parties were also greeted by French Ambassador to Croatia Jérôme Pasquier, emphasizing the importance of being well-informed about the functioning of European affairs prior to the membership.

Manuel talked about the model of cooperation between ministries, the implementation of European legislature, expertise of the European institutions’ activities, ways of informing the French Parliament about the positions on European issues, and the tasks dealt with by the General Secretariat for European Affairs. The main role of the General Secretariat today, founded as early as 1948 for the purposes of ensuring an efficient inter-ministry cooperation, is to form homogenous French positions on the issues regarding the European affairs, as well as to coordinate the cooperation between the French administration and European institutions.
