Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman 4 October 2019 held talks with Hans Dahlgren, the Swedish Minister for EU Affairs.

The two officials discussed the good and friendly relations between Croatia and Sweden, underscoring the prospects of additional strengthening of economic and tourist cooperation. Sweden is Croatia’s most active Scandinavian partner and the number of Swedish tourist visiting Croatia is steadily growing.

Special attention was attached to the current EU topics, where the two ministers underscored closeness in priorities and willingness to continue with the dialogue and exchange of views.

Grlić Radman and Dahlgren also talked about the EU 2019-2024 Strategic Programme, with an emphasis on the protection of citizens and freedoms. In that context, Grlić Radman presented the priorities of Croatia’s EU presidency, which include stimulating economic growth, protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, efficient external EU border control and adequate functioning of the Schengen Area.

Grlić Radman informed his Swedish counterpart about Croatia’s efforts in regard to the Schengen Area and Eurozone accession, underlining out interest to join the OECD.

The opening of accession talks with North Macedonia and Albania was also one of the topics. Grlić Radman said that EU enlargement was beneficial for both the EU and Southeast Europe, and that it represented a strategic investment in the security, stability and prosperity of Europe. In light of that, Croatia will host an EU-Western Balkans summit next year, Grlić Radman said, adding that special attention would be paid to the Eastern Partnership.
