FMs Pejčinović Burić, Reynders talk Croatia-Belgium bilateral relations

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 26 June 2017 received Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders.

The two officials expressed satisfaction with the overall bilateral relations as well as openness to their further strengthening, notably in the areas of business and investment. They exchanged views on the current situation in Southeast Europe, stressing the need for a better alignment of positions on issues of common interest, such as Brexit, the future of the EU, revision of the workforce movement policy and dealing with security challenges, notably migrations.

Pejčinović Burić reported on the progress of Croatia’s preparations for joining the Schengen zone the following year. Both officials agreed that the current situation in the EU required unity and consistency on part of the member states in respecting the agreements, while at the same time represented an opportunity for the Union to improve its position in the foreign policy field.
