Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić 19 February 2018 received on official visit Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok.

The two officials underlined the excellent relations between two friendly countries, emphasizing the importance of regular bilateral dialogue.

Pejčinović Burić and Korčok expressed mutual understanding and respect, as evidenced by the protection of national minorities and highly-developed cooperation in numerous areas, from defence, culture, science and education to tourism. They confirmed a strong mutual wish to further advance economic relations. It was pointed out that trade in 2017 had marked a 15.7% increase, amounting to EUR 530.5 million. Croatia is the most desirable tourist destination for Slovakia, as demonstrated by nearly half a million Slovak tourists who visited Croatia last year – an increase of 10% against 2016.

The two ministers also talked about continuing the good cooperation between Croatia and Slovakia, who share the same views on the EU’s most important policies: Bexit, Multiannual Financial Framework, joint participation on PESCO projects and strong support for enlargement towards the Southeast European countries.

Slovakia will support Croatia along its path towards the Schengen Area, OECD and Eurozone.

In the second half of 2018, Slovakia is to chair the V4, which will serve as an additional platform for strengthening the cooperation within the V4+ format, notably in energy, transport and networking, as well as other areas of mutual interest.

Special emphasis was placed on transferring Slovakia’s experience and recommendations in regard to preparations for the Council of the EU presidency.
