Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Davor Ivo Stier extended condolences to his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Kurz over the death of Alois Mock

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Davor Ivo Stier extended condolences to his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Kurz over the death of Alois Mock.

“It was with deepest regret that we received the news that today, at 83 years of age and after a serious illness, a great friend of Croatia, former Austrian vice-chancellor and foreign minister Alois Mock passed away.

As a foreign minister during the period when Croatia’s independence and sovereignty was being decided on, Mock immensely contributed to its recognition. As few other politicians, Mock firmly advocated Croatia’s right to independence, utilizing all of his international contacts and tirelessly lobbying for Croatia’s international recognition.

The Republic of Croatia will always remember with sincerest respect and gratitude this Austrian politician who continuously fought for its right to independence.”
