FM Pusić meets with Polish Minister of State Treasury Karpiński

Invited by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić as part of the economic diplomacy events 11-12 December in Zagreb, Polish Minister of State Treasury Włodzimierz Karpiński paid a visit to Croatia. The Ministry of State Treasury is in charge of the state-owned companies, many of which are from the energy sector, as well as the privatization process.

Pusić underlined the importance Croatia placed on the energy sector and energy security as well as the efforts to build an efficient energy network in Central Europe. “This particularly goes for the construction of Croatia’s LNG terminal in the island of Krk and its linking with Polish terminal Świnoujście as the future north-south axis. Also important is additional linkage with other routes as well as diversification of source and supply routes,” Pusić said.

“In that regard, Croatia and Poland’s interests are not only compatible, but said project is of key interest for the entire EU and represents a practical implementation of the idea about European energy union. It is precisely the cooperation between Croatia and Poland that can be a step towards the realization of the project,” Pusić said at the meeting with her Polish colleague, which was also attended by Croatian Minister of Economy Ivan Vrdoljak.

Accompanying Karpiński on his visit to Zagreb were representatives of Poland’s largest energy companies. On the second day of the visit a round table was held, gathering select Croatian and Polish energy companies, at which Vrdoljak also participated. The participants presented LNG projects, while Plinacro and Gaz System presented their development priorities. Also discussed were prospects of cooperation in other energy areas, including Croatian companies’ applying to Polish energy infrastructure tenders, with some business ventures already being underway.  

As part of the Polish delegation’s visit, Deputy Minister Joško Klisović met with Director for Economic Cooperation at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Barbarzak, tasked with economic diplomacy. The interlocutors exchanged experiences regarding the two countries’ economic diplomacies and expressed satisfaction with the increase in Croatian-Polish economic activities, adding that there was still a lot of room for improvement and arranging for the consultations to go on.
