Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 9 November 2018 in Brussels attended a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Trade configuration.

The Council discussed the modernisation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the EU’s proposals aimed at strengthening the rule-based multilateral trade system.

In view of the Commission’s report, the Council discussed the state of trade talks with Mercosur, Indonesia, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, China and Tunisia. The also addressed the recently concluded negotiations with Vietnam as well as the agreements signed with Japan and Singapore.   

The Commission presented its second report on the implementation of free trade agreements for 2017, which the Council welcomed.

The ministers also discussed recent developments in the EU’s trade relations with the United States and prospects for future cooperation.
