Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 16 October in Luxembourg attended a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC).

The EU foreign ministers expressed commitment to full and efficient implantation of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), a key element of the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture. The discussed the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and adopted the EU’s autonomous sanctions against the DPRK. They also discussed the situation in Turkey and regional cooperation in the neighbourhood.

As part of the debate on human rights, the FAC adopted Conclusions on the Mid-Term Review of the Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy and the Annual EU Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World in 2016.

The Council also adopted Conclusions on Bosnia and Herzegovina/ the EUFOR Operation Althea, expressing support for its extension. The foreign ministers also confirmed dedication to Bosnia’s European prospect, reiterating the importance of equality for all three constitutive nations as a constitutional category. Bosnia was also called for to enhance its election legislation in accordance with the Constitutional Court’s 2016 decision.

Finally, the FAC adopted Conclusions on Myanmar/Burma and the EU Strategy for Afghanistan, as well as the decision to set up and launch the new civilian mission in Iraq to assist the security sector reform.
