Europe Day marked in Zagreb

The Europe Day was traditionally marked in Zagreb’s European Square on 11 May 2019, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, European Commission Representation in Croatia, European Parliament Office in Croatia, City of Zagreb and embassies of the EU member states

The Europe Day was traditionally marked in Zagreb’s European Square on 11 May 2019, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, European Commission Representation in Croatia, European Parliament Office in Croatia, City of Zagreb and embassies of the EU member states.

Addresses were delivered by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić, Deputy Mayor of Zagreb Olivera Majić, Head of the European Parliament Office in Croatia Violeta Simeonova and Head of the European Commission Representation in Croatia Branko Baričević.

The speakers underlined that the EU was a symbol of peace, wellbeing and quality of life. They stressed the importance of unity at all levels, as only a united Europe can rise to modern-day challenges.

The celebration of the Europe Day traditionally sees presentations of various aspects of membership. This year is was an opportunity to recall topical matters – European Parliament elections and Croatia’s preparations for the Council of the EU presidency.

The central event of this year’s programme was the gastronomic competition Tastes of Europe.
