Europe Day
Today, 9 May 2022, we celebrate Europe Day – a day of peace and unity, whose symbolism this year, in light of the horrific aggression against Ukraine, is more important than ever. A day when we once again send the message to our Ukrainian friends, like Prime Minister Andrej Plenković did yesterday in Kyiv, that Croatia will continue to support Ukraine politically, diplomatically, legally, financially, humanitarianly and technically, with a firm conviction that that is the right thing to do.
In these challenging times, we need the strong unity that the European Union offers. The EU is a framework within which we share solidarity, mobility and growth, and which ensures the implementation of high standards in a number of life and work-related areas. In it, we are safer, more resilient and stronger in dealing with the challenges ahead.
Today we closed the Conference on the Future of Europe. For the past year, that unique project allowed all of us – the EU citizens – to give our contribution to the shaping of our common vision. Croatian citizens have also sent their suggestions and participated in various events throughout Croatia. They will guide us in the development of European policies, the strengthening of EU’s democratic legitimacy and further deliberation on the future of the European project.
Information on Croatia’s activities within the Conference, presented at the government’s session of 6 May 2022, overviews our contribution and is just one of the steps in the process of maintaining dialogue with the citizens.
This year we also mark the 70th anniversary of the European Coal and Steel Community. These anniversaries are a reminder of how much we have accomplished together. The EU is a project of unity and solidarity, as well as a community of values. Countries are still striving to join it, which proves its strength and security. The EU requires our constant investments, so that it could meet the expectations of its citizens.
The main event of Europe Day celebration was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission Representation at Wespa Spaces.
