On 1 July 2021, Croatia is marking the eighth anniversary of EU membership.

By joining the family eight years ago, Croatia realized one of its main foreign policy goals, which enabled us to live in one of the world’s most advanced communities. The EU is built on values that Croatia shares, while the membership is based on solidarity among member states and offers clear and concrete advantages.

During these eight years, Croatia has boosted its reputation, influence and visibility on the European, global and multilateral stage, which was underscored last year, when despite unprecedented circumstances Croatia successfully implemented the activities and goals of its first EU presidency.

Croatia’s achievements and progress during these eight years give us reason to be satisfied and continue working in the period ahead, primarily in order to join the Schengen Area and Eurozone as soon as possible and enjoy all aspects of the full membership.

Croatia continues to use all the advantages that the EU offers as well as the ability to tackle jointly, more strongly and more efficiently all the challenges, and to create better conditions for the prosperity of its citizens and economy, while preserving its culture, identity and sovereignty.

The challenges that Croatia and the EU as a whole are dealing with have underscored the values of solidarity and unity. Additional coordination and cooperation in overcoming them as well as stimulating economic recovery are key goals in the period ahead. Croatia will continue to participate in these processes and contribute to the green and digital recovery and the strengthening of EU’s resilience, as well as in other activities of importance to our citizens and the EU’s prosperity. The Conference on the Future of Europe is a great opportunity for the Croatian citizens to share their views and contribute to the EU’s future.

To commemorate the anniversary, the 8th European Film Festival is taking place 1-20 June, featuring 14 films from Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Denmark, Poland, Sweden and Finland.
