Director-General for Political Affairs Petar Mihatov and Director-General for Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation Irena Alajbeg met on Thursday in Washington with the U.S. Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, John Bass. They discussed the possibilities of enhancing Croatia-U.S. bilateral cooperation, the future of transatlantic relations ahead of the NATO summit in July this year, strengthening energy independence, coordinating ally support for Ukraine, and shared priorities in the Middle East and Southeast Europe. At this and other meetings held, the benefits of the prompt ratification of the Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation for both countries were highlighted. Discussions also touched on Croatia's OECD accession and the importance of U.S. support on this path.
In addition to Bass, the directors-general also met with Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment at the Department of State, Jose Fernandez, Senior Director for Europe Michael Carpenter, and Senior Director for International Economic Affairs Nora Todd from the White House National Security Council. Meetings were also held at the U.S. Department of Defense, Congress, Senate, the EU Delegation to the U.S., as well as with American political analysts and leaders of the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP).
