Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Gordan Jandroković met with Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey during her official visit to Croatia

The officials expressed satisfaction with the two countries’ very good and friendly relations, unburdened by outstanding issues and with a tendency for constant advancement. They also agreed that the Croatian community in Switzerland is an important factor of bilateral cooperation and a true link between the two countries.

Pointing out the well-developed dynamic of high-level visits, Minister Jandroković recalled his previous year’s visit to Switzerland, during which he had met with Micheline Calmy-Rey as then-foreign minister.

In that regard, he once again thanked Switzerland for the humanitarian aid it had been sending Croatia during the Homeland War, as well as the post-war projects on demining and redevelopment of war-torn areas.

Minister Jandroković said that Croatia had entered the final phase of the EU accession process and that December 9th would see the signing of the Accession Treaty, followed by its ratification in the member countries, and the definitive accession slated for July 1st 2013.

President Calmy-Rey congratulated the Croatian Government on the implemented reforms, as well as the closure of the EU negotiations. Both sides expressed belief that the bilateral relations would be strengthened further once Croatia joined the EU, especially in regard to the framework of relations between Switzerland and the EU, and the mutual agreements.

Speaking about the possibilities of expanding the economic cooperation, Minister Jandroković invited Swiss businessmen to step up their investments in Croatia.

The meeting also discussed the situation in Southeast Europe, as well as the two countries’ multilateral cooperation, with special emphasis on the cooperation within the UN and OSCE.
