Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović 7-9 July in New York is attending the ministerial segment of the ECOSOC High-Level Political Forum.

In his address, Klisović talked about Croatia’s experiences and results in regard to the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the need for the post-2015 sustainable development goals to be universal, concrete and efficient in their response to the challenges of the modern world. Apart from the three fundamental dimension of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental), he underlined the importance of peace, the rule of law, respect for human rights and good governance as preconditions for a sustainable and equal development of all. He also recalled Croatia’s membership in the Open Government Partnership and its achievements within said initiative. He stressed in particular the importance of universal and available education as a pledge for the future, the need to protect the environment and promote sustainable tourism.

The topic of this year’s forum is “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals and charting the way for an ambitious post-2015 development agenda including the Sustainable Development Goals”. The forum is being held under the auspices of the ECOSOC. Opening remarks were delivered by ECOSOC President Martin Sajdik, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and General Assembly Chairman John Ashe.
