Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović attended 7 July a general discussion of the ECOSOC High-Level Political Forum, at which he addressed implementation of the sustainable development goals to be adopted at the UN summit scheduled for 25-27 September. Klisović outlined Croatia’s priorities in the future development agenda such as human rights, the rule of law and good governance. He spoke about gender equality, preventing violence against women and children, the rights of the most vulnerable groups, as well as about the importance of education, sustainable environmental management, sustainable tourism and maritime governance. Klisović also presented Croatia’s experiences in regard to citizens and CSOs’ participation in decision-making through the Open Government Partnership initiative. He also discussed Croatia’s and the joint EU views on future monitoring of the implementation of sustainable development goals through HLPF.

Klisović was also one of the speakers at a discussion on communication and implementation of the universal development agenda and the importance of good communication strategy towards citizens, media and civil society, noting Croatia’s communication strategy ahead of the EU membership referendum as a good example of that. The general discussion was moderated by Ambassador Vladimir Drobnjak.
