Croatian MFAEI sends diplomatic note to Slovenian Embassy
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia sent on Monday, 18 June 2007, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia diplomatic note demanding urgent and comprehensive explanation of the information regarding the spying of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Sanader in 2004 by the Slovenian intelligence agency, published in the Slovenian newspaper “Dnevnik“ on Saturday 16 June 2007, based on allegations of the former SIA Director General Iztok Podbregar, which were confirmed by statements of the former Slovenian Prime Minister Anton Rop
An article published in the Slovenian newspaper “Dnevnik“ on 16 June 2007 brings information on the spying of conversations between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Sanader and the current Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, which had taken place in 2004. The author of the article refers to an interview of the former Director General of the Slovenian Intelligence Agency Iztok Podbregar, which was confirmed by the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Anton Rop.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration qualified such activities in its note as adverse for the relations of our two countries and absolutely contrary to international standards and practice and asked the Slovenian side for an urgent and thorough explanation of the statements.
