Croatian MFA welcomes the adoption of the SC Resolution 1546
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia welcomes the adoption of the Security Council Resolution 1546 on Iraq, which makes solid foundation for the establishment of full Iraqi sovereignty
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia expresses satisfaction with the unity of the Security Council when voting on the Resolution that confirms the multilateral framework of activities, which is of major importance in successful resolution of problems in Iraq. Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the fact that the leading role in Iraq has been given to the UN and the activities defined of the UNAMI confident this will help preparations and successful implementation of elections to be held at the end of 2004 or the beginning of 2005.Resolution 1546 is important not only for the Iraqi people but also for the stability of a wider region. New escalation of conflict in Iraq might have serious consequences for global security and peace, and in this context, the Resolution represents a giant step aimed not only at the security, democratic and economic reconstruction of Iraq, but also strengthening world peace. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia pays its respect to Security Council member states for efforts invested in the work on the Resolution as a far-reaching document which helped strengthen the authority of both the Council and the UN in general. As a UN member state and the member of the Anti-Terrorist Coalition, the Republic of Croatia is willing to contribute as much as she can to the process of the post-war reconstruction of Iraq and the rebuilding of confidence, and in line with that prepares suitable programmes of humanitarian aid and technical assistance.
