Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul received the MFA of the Republic of Cyprus, George Iacovou

On 10 September 2004, Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul received the MFA of the Republic of Cyprus, George Iacovou, in Zagreb, on his first official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

Minister Žužul thanked for the Cypriot support to the Republic of Croatia in its acquiring the status of a candidate for full membership of the European Union and voiced expectations that the support of Cyprus would contribute to determining the soonest possible beginning of formal negotiations with the EU. Dr Žužul said Croatia and Cyprus had good political relations, and that everything should be done to strengthen them through more intensive bilateral economic cooperation.

Minister Iacovou said Cyprus supported Croatia's efforts in approaching the European Union and in determining the date for the beginning of Croatia's negotiations with the European Union, and that Cyprus also supported individually merited admission of the countries from the region to the European Union, particularly of Croatia. Iacovou promised support to Croatian candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2008/2009.

The Ministers considered general bilateral relations and expressed their desire to sign several agreements, announcing the possibility of establishing direct flights between Croatia and Cyprus.

Today, Minister Žužul and Minister Iacovou signed the Protocol on Consultations between the MFA of Croatia and the MFA of Cyprus to create administrative conditions for intensive bilateral cooperation.
