Croatian Embassy to Ireland, in cooperation with Cork Vision Centre, organized photography exhibition Croatia’s Undersea World by Miro Andrić
In his speech to the numerous guests from the political, cultural and economic circles of the City of Cork, the second largest in Ireland, Croatian Ambassador Veselko Grubišić expressed satisfaction with the continuation of the cultural cooperation and Croatia’s promotion in Ireland, and especially with the intensification of the contacts with the Cork region
Ambassador Grubišić presented in short the beauty and wealth of the Adriatic, stressing the importance of Croatia’s pending EU membership, which will additionally stimulate the cultural exchange between Croatia and Ireland. He called to mind the ties that Irish writers Yeats, Shaw and Joyce had set up with Croatia in the past. As a sign of special gratitude for the support in organizing this project of promoting Croatia’s art and tourism, Ambassador Grubišić presented Cork Vision Centre Director John Miller with the Croatian-Irish commemorative silver coin “Girl with Harp”, which was jointly issued in 2007 by the Croatian National Bank and the Central Bank of Ireland.
The coin marked the 80th anniversary of the design for the first silver coins of Ireland by Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, which has since 1965 been featured on the official seal of the Central Bank of Ireland.
Speeches were also held by Deputy Mayor of Cork John Buttimer, Cork Vision Centre Director John Miller, and the exhibition author Miro Andrić himself.
