Croatia strongly supports Moldova’s European path

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Friday received an official visit from the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu. The talks took place in the spirit of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and intensive bilateral cooperation on all levels.
 
“Since the last bilateral meeting on 1 February, a lot has changed in Moldova. The country is facing a war in its neighbourhood, an influx of more than 90,000 Ukrainian refugees and energy insecurity. The EU and Croatia have shown solidarity with Moldova by sending humanitarian and macro-financial assistance. We have also set up the Moldova Support Platform, providing additional assistance for dealing with the challenges,” Grlić Radman said.
 
The two officials underscored that trade between Croatia and Moldova had been growing for two consecutive years. They also highlighted the prospects of strengthening cooperation in energy, transport, food industry and IT. Due to the circumstances in Ukraine, Moldova has a key role in exportingUkrainian products to Europe.
 
In June, Moldova was granted the EU membership candidate status. Grlić Radman once again congratulated Popescu, expressing strong support for the Moldova’s European path. Croatia is ready to continue to provide assistance, including the Eastern Partnership.
 
Conclusively, Grlić Radman reiterated Croatia’s strong support for the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries, highlighting yesterday’s granting of the EU membership candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Popescu thanked Croatia for its continued support, technical assistance and sharing of EU accession process experience.
