Croatia’s interim chargé d'affaires in Belgrade denied allegations in Serbia’s protest note over Croatia’s position on the monument to former Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) major Milan Tepić. He was invited for a talk at Serbia’s foreign ministry as a response to Croatia’s foreign ministry reaction.

The Serbian officials reiterated their stance on Croatia, which the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs completely refutes as unacceptable, biased and tendentious, but above all arbitrary and malicious.

Their statements come on the heels of yesterday’s completely inappropriate, unusual in terms of international communication and offensive statements by Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić.

Croatia is trying to build relations with Serbia in the spirit of good-neighbourliness and honest regional cooperation, and we expect that our neighbours take the same approach that we advocate, which is constructiveness, readiness for dialogue and the goodwill to solve all issues in the European spirit.

In light of that, we call for Serbia’s institutions and officials to refrain from rhetoric and actions which run contrary to the principles of good-neighbourliness and that we turn to solving the outstanding issues between our countries.
