The Republic of Croatia received a strong support to its efforts for a speedy entry to the EU at the plenary session of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community, held on 20 November 2003 in Keszthely, in the Hungarian county of Zala. The Resolution on the historical enlargement of the EU to ten new member states was adopted. Mr. Darko Bekić, Assistant Foreign Minister and delegate of the Croatian Prime Minister Račan participated at the meeting.

The Resolution expressed a wish to initiate, as soon as possible, the negotiations on the accession with the Republic of Croatia. It welcomed the future membership of the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Hungary and other countries members of the Working Community.

The enlargement is seen as a chance for inhabitants of new Member States and regions to participate, in the future, in the development of prosperity and well being through a unique European market. These chances primarily refer to companies in border regions and states.

Other priorities are mentioned as well such as cooperation between regions, strengthening of cultural identity in the spirit of mutual cooperation, understanding and pacifism., economic and social cohesion, development programs etc.

The task of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community is to build bridges, to give its contribution to harmonious integration and to overcome problems of transition periods. It also intends to intensify its cooperation in cultural, economic and social area. It represents a platform for EU-projects and EU networking.
