Croatia constantly working so Western Balkans stays in NATO's focus

Croatia is constantly working so the Western Balkans remains in NATO's focus, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on Wednesday after NATO adopted a report on that part of Europe at a foreign ministers' meeting in Bucharest.
 
As a country in the immediate neighbourhood of the Western Balkans, Croatia is "the most qualified to objectively testify to and raise awareness of the situation" in order to contribute to the adoption of NATO's key documents and policies, Grlić Radman said.
 
NATO has "acknowledged certain positions in the strategic concept" by Croatia and the importance of the Western Balkans is being discussed within NATO, he added.
 
Also attending the Bucharest meeting are the foreign ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, and Moldova.
 
The report focuses on each Western Balkan country and points out which "may be the most porous to Russian influence and which follow Europe's security and foreign policy "the least," Grlić Radman said.
 
He reiterated that Serbia must join in the sanctions against Russia as well as be more explicit, consistent and credible if it wants to realise its European prospects.
 
Grlić Radman welcomed the 2 October elections in BiH and the changes made by High Representative Christian Schmidt to "politically stabilise" the country.
 
With his decisions, Schmidt "relaxed the political climate in BiH," which will contribute to its obtaining EU candidate status, he said.
