Croatia today commemorates the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian and Autocratic Regimes to pay respects to the victims and once again unequivocally condemn the crimes of all nondemocratic regimes of the 20th century

Croatia today commemorates the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian and Autocratic Regimes to pay respects to the victims and once again unequivocally condemn the crimes of all nondemocratic regimes of the 20^th century.

The “Black Ribbon Day” was formally designated by the European Parliament in 2008 and confirmed by the Resolution on European Conscience and Totalitarianism in 2009. In response, the Croatian Parliament designated 23 August as the day of remembrance for victims of totalitarian and autocratic regimes in Croatia in 2011.

Uncovering the truth, condemning the violations of fundamental human rights and satisfaction for the victims and their families are the preconditions for facing the past and responding to the key challenges for Croatia in the 21^st century.
