The official handover of a library at the Khorasan girls’ high school in Mazar-e Sharif and the school with a water tower in Camp Sakhi, the Croatian Armed Forces’ area of responsibility, was held 18 April. Attended by representatives of Afghan state and local authorities, the handover was done by Croatian Ambassador to Turkey Dražen Hrastić, accompanied by Commander of the 21st HRVCON, Colonel Krešo Tuškan, and the political advisor at the Office of the Senior Civilian Representative at Regional Command North, Miljenko Ugarković.

This represents a continuation of the successfully completed project of elementary school construction in Homaro Faroq on the outskirts of Mazar-e-Sharif, which was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in 2011 as part of the development cooperation between Croatia and Afghanistan.

Croatia has financed more than 42 education and health care projects in Afghanistan, exceeding USD 3.5 million. Special emphasis has been put on women’s reproductive health, strengthening the role of women in the political, economic and social life, as well as the education of girls.
