Croatia-Azerbaijan political consultations

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on Thursday held political consultations between Croatia and Azerbaijan.

State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić expressed satisfaction to head of Azerbaijani delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, with the uptrend in the two countries’ political and economic relations. A meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation is to be held soon and will discuss a stronger trade presence of Croatian companies.

Rzayev handed Matušić a letter from Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, inviting him to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in October.

Matušić thanked the Azerbaijani government for the aid it had sent in the wake of the earthquake in Banovina.

Director-General for Political Affairs Petar Mihatov exchanged views with Rzayev about the political aspects of cooperation, relations in Transcaucasia and Southeast Europe, the new Eastern Partnership cycle as well as global security topics, such as the Afghan crisis and its aftermath.

In addition, the officials reviewed the possibilities offered by the Croatian expertise in mine action and infrastructural projects. Rzayev underscored that Azerbaijan wanted to build itself into a technologically advanced country, where he also prospects for cooperation with Croatia.
