Cravat, neckerchief presented as symbols of Croatia's EU presidency

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday attended a ceremonious handover of the Croatian cravat and neckerchief, symbols of Croatia’s Council of the EU presidency. 

Addressing the event, Grlić Radman highlighted cravat as a lasting symbol and globally recognizable part of Croatian heritage, embodying elegance, dignity, ceremoniousness and business excellence – all reasons why cravat has been included in protocol gifts during Croatia’s presidency. 

The minister thanked Marijan Bušić, the founder of the Croata brand and the Academia Cravatica, congratulating him on preserving and presenting cravat as a part of Croatian and global heritage. The ministry and the Academia Cravatica have realized a number of joint projects during the Croatian presidency, such as tying cravats around monuments, buildings and statues of Croatian greats, decorating the premises of diplomatic missions and consular offices with posters of cravat history, and organizing various exhibitions. 

Concluding his address, Grlić Radman recalled the day Croatia had assumed the Council of EU presidency, when a giant cravat had been tied from the balcony of the Croatian Embassy in Vienna, underscoring the role of cravat as a symbol of Croatia.
