On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated in a meeting of the Friends of the Western Balkans group and the foreign ministers of the Western Balkan countries in Bratislava.

On that occasion, he emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Croatia continues to strongly support the enlargement of the European Union to include the countries of the Western Balkans, while remaining ready to provide assistance and share Croatia’s experience on the European path. It was highlighted that 2025 and 2026 have brought visible progress in the accession process, particularly for Albania and Montenegro, with the positive momentum representing an important opportunity for the entire region. The minister also stressed the importance of implementing reforms, aligning with the policies and values of the European Union, and preserving good neighbourly relations.

The Republic of Croatia supports the gradual integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union’s single market, including access to SEPA and the reduction of roaming costs, so that citizens can experience the tangible benefits of European integration. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the transport, energy, and digital connectivity of the Western Balkans, as well as on energy security through the diversification of supply sources and routes. In this context, projects such as the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline and the Southern Gas Interconnection with Bosnia and Herzegovina were highlighted.

During his stay in Bratislava, Grlić Radman met with the Croatian community and visited the Museum of Croatian Culture in Devínska Nová Ves. Minister Grlić Radman emphasized that Croatia remains firmly committed to supporting the Croatian minority in Slovakia through financial assistance, institutional cooperation, and programmes aimed at preserving language, identity, and cultural heritage. The Museum of Croatian Culture in Devínska Nová Ves is a symbol of the preservation of Croatian tradition and identity. The minister also stressed that language is the foundation of identity and that Croatia supports efforts to introduce the Croatian language into regular education in Slovakia, following the example of the rights enjoyed by the Slovak minority in Croatia.
