Consultations held in Zagreb between the Republic of Croatia and the Italian Republic

State Secretary for Political Affairs at the MFAEI Hido Biščević received today, 2 May 2005 in Zagreb, the delegation of the Italian Republic’s MFA, led by Director General for Europe Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, for continued Croatian-Italian consultations

"As part of the agreed intensive calendar of bilateral cooperation, the delegations welcomed this meeting as an important step towards the strategic partnership between Croatia and Italy, based on interconnected historical, cultural, social links and European values

The delegations have noted the positive dynamics in the relations between the two countries, and have agreed to continue the discussions in the framework of Joint Commission Related to the Denationalisation in Croatia. The delegations are looking forward to further work on this issue in a constructive process based on the principle of pacta sunt servanda. The continued talks regarding the outstanding Croatian debt under Osimo and Rome agreements have been agreed.

The delegations have exchanged further information on legal regimes in both countries related to real estate markets and on existing agreements. Further exchange of views and positions has been agreed with a view of Croatia's EU relations and mutual interest to reach satisfactory solution.

The discussions today have also included cultural cooperation and archives while the next meeting of the Commission on Military Cemeteries has been scheduled for June. Also, the delegations have agreed to deepen their dialogue on economic and ecological cooperation in the Adriatic."
