On Thursday and Friday, August 26 and 27 2021, a two-day Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General and Military Attachés of the Republic of Croatia was held in Zagreb. The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, with the participation of a special guest, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tony Blair. This was followed by an address by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman, speeches by the Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner Dubravka Šuica along with the member of the European Court of Auditors Ivana Maletić. The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković addressed the high officials at the lunch meeting.
The opening ceremony and lunch meeting were followed by panel discussions, which were attended by leaders of other ministries dealing with international political issues and goals of the Republic of Croatia at the international level, key economic processes and challenges of economic diplomacy and cooperation with Croats abroad.
The speakers were, among others, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Zdravko Marić and Governor of the Croatian National Bank Boris Vujčić.
State Secretary of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad Zvonko Milas spoke about the inclusion of the Croatian diaspora in Croatian economic life and the creation of conditions for their return and investment, while Vice President of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Željana Zovko reported on the Committee's activities.
The second day of the Conference included panel discussions on current foreign policy and security challenges, as well as cultural and public diplomacy. The participants were also addressed by the Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency Daniel Markić on hybrid warfare and cyber security, followed by a presentation by the Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek on the Year of Reading Culture and better coordination of cultural creativity and diplomacy.
This annual gathering was an opportunity for a comprehensive discussion of the current challenges of Croatian diplomacy, the purpose of which is to jointly reflect on the priority goals and activities of Croatian foreign policy and the foreign affairs service.
