Assistant Minister Gustović Ercegovac received delegation of the Republic of the Philippines

Assistant Minister Gustović Ercegovac received on Thursday, 5 June 2008, the delegation of the Republic of the Philippines, Cebu Province, led by Province Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Following visits to the Republic of Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia the delegation of Philippine Cebu Province visited the Republic of Croatia within the framework of economic visits to Central Europe. The purpose of the visit was to learn about economic potentials of visited countries and the research of the potential market for the placement of wood industry products.

The two sides talked about business potentials of the Republic of Croatia and Philippine Province Cebu – the central island in the Philippine archipelago (the size of Istria with population of 3.8 mil), and due to geographic position and port infrastructure, among most developed transport, tourist and industrial Philippine provinces.

Assistant Minister Gustović Ercegovac said that Croatia as a political and economical leader in the region, with her sea ports and modern traffic infrastructure, offered a great opportunity for transit of goods to Central and SE Europe, which significantly reduced the time of transport in respect to other sea ports in Western Europe.

Province Governor Garcia recognized comparative advantages of Croatian ports and emphasized the need to continue with contacts aimed at finding possibilities to establish mutually fruitful cooperation.

Honorary Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines to the Republic of Croatia Davor Štern also participated at the meeting as well as Assistant Director of the Institute of Immunology Tomislav Čorak, who emphasized the need to find new partners in the Philippines to establish cooperation in the field of technology transfer and common production, and enable the spread to markets of ASEAN countries.
