Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Batistić Kos attended the 64th session of the UNHCR Executive Committee, held 30 September to 4 October in Geneva.

In her remarks at the High-Level Segment on Solidarity and Burden-Sharing with Countries Hosting Syrian Refugees, Batistić Kos applauded the efforts by neighbouring countries in hosting Syrian refugees. She said that Croatia, in accordance with its abilities, continued to offer assistance to Syrian refugees and would in agreement with the Jordanian government distribute 1400 vaccinations to the largest refugee camp Zaatari.

Batistić Kos recalled that UNHCR was among the first international organizations to come to Croatia and whose contribution in dealing with the refugee crisis was extremely important. He thanked UNHCR for all it had done so far, expressing hope that cooperation through the Regional Housing Programme, in which UNHCR is one of international partners, would continue.

She welcomed the debate on termination of refugee status launched by UNHCR, adding that it would be a confirmation of one of unfortunately rare success stories involving international community in a situation where we are faced with global-level displacement.
