Argentine Croats can contribute to strengthening Croatia's demography

Croats from Argentina can contribute to strengthening Croatia's demography and represent "great potential" in terms of certain professions and occupations in demand in  the Croatian economy, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on Wednesday in Buenos Aires.

Grlić Radman met with representatives of the Argentine-Croatian Chamber of Commerce (CACIC) and underscored that "the experience and knowledge that the chamber has can be very significant for our future defining of those situations that are related to strengthening the demographic picture in Croatia."

"Here, I am primarily thinking of the great potential of various occupations and skills of Croatian emigrants and their descendants who are showing interest in immigrating to the homeland of their ancestors, and this is precisely where the chamber can be of use with its database on the number of Croatian emigrants," added Grlić Radman.

He stressed that 250,000 to 300,000 people of Croatian origin live in Argentina and that many of them have professional profiles that "are particularly interesting for the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, the Croatian Employers' Association, and the Hospitality Association."

Earlier, Grlić Radman spoke with the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs Diana Mondino about the possibility of an agreement on the labour market.

On Wednesday, the Grlić Radman handed over 100 citizenship certificates to Croats in Argentina.

Even though this refers to a second and third generation of Croatian expats, they still "feel their Croatian origin and Croatia as their homeland," Grlić Radman said.
