Ambassador Emilio Marin handed Card. Giovanni Lajolo Order of Prince Trpimir with necklace and Danica

Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Holy See Emilio Marin handed Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, President of the Pontifical Commission and Governorate of the Vatican City State, the medal of Order of Prince Trpimir with necklace and Danica, awarded to him by Croatian President Stjepan Mesić for his personal contribution to the development of friendly relations and cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the Holy See

Ambassador Marin said that as a long-time head of the Vatican diplomacy, Card. Lajolo has always striven to promote the human rights and the rights of peoples, especially the smaller ones, for which Croatia is immeasurably grateful. Ambassador Marin recalled the visit by Card. Lajolo to Croatia in June 2006, on the occasion of marking the 15th anniversary of Croatia-Holy See diplomatic relations, thanking the Cardinal for visiting Vukovar.

Cardinal Lajolo accepted the medal with great satisfaction, thanking for the honour. He expressed his friendliness and understanding for Croatia’s history, especially noting the closeness of the Croatian nation with popes and the Holy See, which he had the opportunity to see during his official visit to Croatia. Cardinal Lajolo wished Croatia success in realizing its Euro-integration ambitions with its political leadership and a European sensibility, in which it enjoys the support of the Holy See.
