A 25 Kuna coin in circulation, on the occasion of marking the Republic of Croatia's EU candidate country status

Croatian National Bank issued a 25 Kuna coin on the occasion of marking Croatia's achievement of an EU candidate country status on June 18, 2004

The occasional 25 Kuna coin is shaped like a dodecagon, the circle of which has a 32 mm diameter and weighs 12.75 grams. At the coin's core are two squares symbolising the Republic of Croatia, placed one above the other with their apexes connected, and three lines, which symbolise the Early Croatian interlacing-ribbon pattern, constitute their edges.

The lines in the right apex of the lower, bigger square are not connected and symbolise the Republic of Croatia's openness to the European Union. They also lead into the coin's ring, inside of which there are twelve stars, symbols of the European Union, interwoven with three lines, the Croatian interlacing-ribbon pattern, which points to the Republic of Croatia's intention to become an EU member country. In the middle, next to the lower edge, the date June 18, 2005 is stressed, delimited with a square on the left side and with a star on the right. An added piece to the date is a text which reads: "The Republic of Croatia – an EU candidate country" and which closes the circle on the coin.
