Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić participated in the presentation of the new statistical classification of spatial units of the Republic of Croatia, held in the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds on 29 August 2012

The previous division into three regions – Northwestern Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia – aroused fears that due to the significantly more developed city of Zagreb, northwestern Croatia would exceed the limit of 75 percent of the average European per capita GDP, leaving these counties without access to a significant part of the EU funds. The new territorial division that will be used for statistical purposes will avoid such a situation.

The new division of Croatia into two statistical regions, Continental and Adriatic, will be in effect as of 1 January 2013, and the use of European Union funds as of 1 July 2013 will be based on the new territorial division of Croatia.
