Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Gordan Jandroković and Justice Minister Dražen Bošnjaković met with EU countries’ ambassadors to inform them about meeting criteria for closing Chapter 23 – Judiciary and Fundamental Rights

Minister Jandroković thanked the ambassadors and their respective countries for the continuous support they showed Croatia along its road to the full-fledged EU membership.

Pointing out that Croatia was a step away from realizing said goal and would in the coming period double efforts to that end, Minister Jandroković expressed belief that the negotiations would be closed by end-June this year.

The Republic of Croatia will spare no effort to satisfy all of the criteria, especially those necessary to close Chapter 23, said Minister Jandroković, emphasizing that reforms would continue to be implemented even after the temporary closing of all the chapters.

Minister Bošnjaković expressed satisfaction with the carrying out of the action plan for meeting the Chapter 23 criteria so far, adding that half of the work had already been done and that Croatia was doing well in meeting all of the criteria.

He also said that the whole process concerning the closure of Chapter 23 should be completed during the following month, pointing out that that an all-out war on corruption was the Croatian Government’s strategic guideline. He stressed the importance of the activities of the new and personnel-wise stronger State Judiciary Council, as well as the activities of the Judicial Academy, responsible for the advanced training of Croatian judges.
