Minister Gordan Jandroković met with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Knut Vollebaek, on the sidelines of the 17th meeting of the Ministerial Council of members states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Athe

The collocutors emphasised successful cooperation between the official bodies of the Republic of Croatia and the institution of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in the promotion of the rights of national minorities. Minister Jandroković pointed out that the protection of the rights of national minorities was the starting point for building tolerance and understanding in the society, adding that the Republic of Croatia provides the highest standards for their protection through the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia and the Constitutional Act on the Rights of National Minorities.

He informed his collocutor about the efforts undertaken pursuant to the provisions of the Constitutional Act on the Rights of National Minorities to achieve the laid down level of representation of members of national minorities in state and local administration institutions.

They also mentioned education in the respective native language of national minorities, the election of representatives of national minorities to state and local representative bodies, as well as the status and position of Croats in the neighbouring countries.
