Minister Grlić Radman participates in 25th anniversary of Fourth World Conference on Women
Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlic Radman on Thursday participated in a virtual high-level meeting on the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which took place in Beijing in September 1995 and saw the adoption of a Declaration and a Platform for Action.
The meeting coincided with the 75th session of the UN General Assembly and took stock of the progress of the international community’s political commitment to the empowerment of women and girls in line with said documents.
Concerning the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grlic Radman stressed the importance of ensuring equal rights for all and underscored Croatia’s commitment to fighting discrimination and empowering women in all areas of life, highlighting the importance of creating a violence-free environment.
In addition, Grlic Radman underlined Croatia’s commitment to the implementation of the Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, adding that Croatia’s development and humanitarian assistance was oriented towards strengthening the status of women in conflict and post-conflict countries. Given Croatia’s specific experiences, the minister reflected on the implementation of the Act on the Rights of Victims of Sexual Violence during the Military Aggression against Republic of Croatia in the Homeland War.
All of said principles and values have been built into the recently adopted omnibus resolution “Comprehensive and Coordinated Response to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic”, whose drafting Croatia coordinated with Afghanistan.
