Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Croatian Food Festival opened on 8 October 2007 in the UN building in New York. Said festival is a Gastronomic Week during which indigenous and recognisable Croatian specialties and products will be presented as a constituent part of a unique Croatian gastronomy, opening a possibility for an overall promotion of Croatia – from gastronomy, to economy, tourism, and tourist potentials. The Croatian Gastronomic Week will also see the opening of the BeCroative exhibition on Croatia's contribution to world heritage. UN members organise gastronomic weeks to promote their countries, but they also serve as accompanying events in lobbying for especially important positions in UN bodies. The forthcoming event, apart from comprehensively presenting Croatia in the UN headquarters in New York, will thus fit into the activities of the Croatian diplomacy and its final lobbying for the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
