UNHCR representative Buchorn pointed out that the UNHCR Office supports the efforts of the Croatian Government in finding a final solution to the refugee issue. In that regard he commended the speech by Minister Grabar-Kitarovic at the presentation of the Program on the Return and Housing of Refuges and Displaced Persons, held in Vukovar in June. He also thanked for the Croatian Government's support for the activities of the UNHCR and handed the Study on the Sustainability of Minority Return on English and Croatian.
Minister Grabar-Kitarovic pointed out that the Croatian Government has repeatedly confirmed its dedication and taken concrete steps to bring the process of refugee and displaced persons return to a close. She added that the implementation of the return, reconstruction and rehabilitation program if one of the Croatian Government's priorities and a part of the efforts to strengthen the democratic and social stability in the country, as well as a sustainable development of the areas of special state concern, which are important preconditions for the progress and development of Croatia as a whole. Minister Grabar-Kitarovic also noted that Croatia has grown from an international assistance recipient country into a donator of humanitarian aid, military personnel and financial support to the UN funds and projects, and will also continue to offer assistance as a part of its Peacebuilding Commission membership.
