The Croatian Government has announced it will allocate four million kuna in financial aid for tsunami-hit countries: India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand.
Each of the four countries will be given one million kuna (approximately $180,000) and the financial assistance will be sent via the Croatian Red Cross.
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader have extended their condolences to their counterparts and the citizens of Southeast Asian countries devastated by the disaster.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have learned of the earthquake and tidal waves that have afflicted Southeast Asian states. I would like to extend my deepest condolences on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and my own behalf, to all residents of these countries, especially to the families of the victims.”
The Croatian branch of the international humanitarian organization Caritas has also launched a fundraising campaign to help the victims. The funds will be allocated to assist those who have been left homeless, as well as other victims of the disaster.
