Girls’ Choir from Croatia to Perform
at the Church of the Holy Family
The award-winning girls’ choir from Croatia -- the Little Stars, or Zvjezdice -- is touring the United States this month and will perform a Christmas concert at the Church of the Holy Family, the United Nations Parish, on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m.
The concert is being held under the patronage of H.E. Archbishop Celestino Migliore of the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations and the Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in New York.
The concert entitled “Peace and Joy to the World” also features the Julliard String Quintet and will be conducted by Zvjezdice Music Director Zdravko Sljivac and Drago Bubalo, former conductor of the Croatian Army Symphony Band and current music director of the Church of St. Aidan on Long Island.
Zvjezdice, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month, has made more than 120 recordings and is a two-time winner of the prestigious Llanghollen Children’s Choir competition in the U.K. The choir has traveled extensively throughout North American and Europe, and has been named “Cultural Ambassadors of the EU” by the European Parliament in Brussels.
In addition to the concert at the Church of the Holy Family, the choir will perform at St. Aidan’s Church in Williston Park, NY on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. and at St. Cyril’s Church in Manhattan on Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. As part of their 2004 American Christmas tour, the group has also performed this month in Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.
All concerts are free and open to the public.
