On July 1st 2020, Ambassador Aleksandar Sunko participated in the symbolic handover ceremony of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On July 1, the Croatian Presidency ended and the German Presidency of the Council began. The handover ceremony was organized by the German Embassy in Athens in an open-air cinema. On this occasion, German Ambassador Ernst Reichel especially thanked Croatia and said that Croatia has done an excellent job during the most challenging circumstances. The ceremony ended with a roundtable discussion on the priorities and challenges that the EU is facing, with participation of Croatian, German, Portuguese and Slovenian ambassadors, as well as Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.
