Croatian policemen in FRONTEX operation Poseidon Sea 2015

As a part of a joint operation Frontex Poseidon Sea 2015 eight Croatian policemen were sent to Greece in July, and nine more police officers, who will replace the first shift, arrived in Greece on July 30. The operation involves 16 EU countries, as well as Albania, Ukraine, and EU agencies and international organizations. The main task of the operation is humanitarian work and assistance to immigrants who enter from Turkey to Greece on a daily basis. Due to the large influx of illegal migrants from Asia and other forms of cross-border crime, Greece has been conducting this joint operation, organized by the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union– FRONTEX, since 2007. The Republic of Croatia, who is a part of the joint operation since 2012, this year plans to send a total of 37 police officers, with one vehicle equipped with a thermal imaging camera and also one patrolling police car. On September 1, 2015, a police vessel „Sveti Dujam“ joined the operation, alongside 27 officers of the maritime police.
