Ambassador Dr. Ivan Velimir Starcevic presented his credentials

Dr. Ivan Velimir Starcevic, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia resident in Athens, presented his credentials on 28 April, 2014, to Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, President of the Republic of Cyprus. Presenting his credentials, the Ambassador stressed the excellent relations between Croatia and Cyprus, as two EU member states and Mediterranean countries, with and abundant cultural heritage and natural beauties, which have an excellent basis for enhancing cooperation, particularly in the field of maritime policy. He expressed the Croatian Government"s wish for a successful outcome of the new round of talks between the two Cypriot communities. In his reply, president Anastasiadis congratulated Croatia for its accession to the European Union. He reaffirmed his country’s wish to give particular attention to the Mediterranean dimension of the European Union. As regards Cyprus’ economy, he expressed confidence in measures that aim to reinvigorate the economy, boost investments and create jobs. Regarding the dialogue between the two communities, he stressed the goal of achieving a settlement which will serve, above all, the legitimate interests of the Cypriot people; a settlement which will secure the unity of the country and the respect of the fundamental freedoms and human rights of all its citizens. The President kindly requested that his greetings be conveyed to President Ivo Josipovic and to the people of Croatia. Present at the ceremony were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulidis, the Director of the Office of the President, Mr Panayiotis Antoniou, and the Chief of Protocol, Mr Nearchos Palas.
