The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Kazakhstan, Refik Šabanović, visited to the city of Shymkent and the Turkestan region from March 2 to 5, 2020 together with thirteen EU Ambassadors. The scope of this official visit was to meet with representatives of local and regional authorities. The delegation was led by the Head of the EU Mission, Sven-Olov Carlsson. In Shymkent, the Ambassadors were received by the Mayor, Mr. Murat Aitenov, while in Turkestan they met with the County Prefect Mr. Umirzak Shukeyev and the Mayor Rashid Ayupov. They were discussing further development of economic, cultural and other relations between the EU and Kazakhstan and exchanging opinions on the matters related to the difficulties faced by EU companies in Kazakhstan's trade and economic sectors. During the visit, the Ambassadors also visited several industrial zones, factories and Universities, and met with representatives of the civil society. Ambassador Šabanović informed his hosts about the Croatian presidency of the EU Council, and presented the interests and possibilities of cooperation between Kazakh and Croatian companies.
