The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Berislav Roncevic, was on an offiicial visit to Canada on October 10 and 11, 2006. He welcomed an invitation from the Hon. Gordon J. O'Connor, Minister of National Defence.
Main topics of the talks were Croatian-Canadian Military bilateral cooperation in the field of training, logistical and technical support. One of the central topics comprised military cooperation of Croatia and Canada in mulitilateral organizations and UN and NATO missions, in particular the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
The Republic of Croatia participates in six UN and NATO missions worldwide. Croatia has deployed a contingent of a Military Police Platoon in Afghanistan since 2003, in cooperation with NATO. The military presence of Croatian Forces in Afghanistan will be enhanced by an additional 150 personnel during 2006.
Minister Roncevic also met with General Rick Hillier, Chief of Defense Staff, who in 2003 was commander of the ISAF troops.
During an official visit to the Senate, Minister Roncevic met with senator Pierre- Cluade Nolin, and in the evening the Minister payed a visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia meeting with member of the Croatian Community from the Capital Regioin.
