The Republic of Croatia has established itself in the international community as a country with a positive image and honourable citizens. The Croatian society has been determined to succeed. Its aim is to share the values and achieve the same economic and social system as the societes of other Euro-Atlantic states.
The relations between the Republic of Croatia and Canada are excellent. A shared interest of both states is the deepening of economic relations. The twentieth anniversary of the establishement of the diplomatic relations between Croatian and Canada was celebrated in the spring of 2013, while looking back at the long and challenging journey that Croatia has succesfully completed over the past two decades.
The entry of Croatia in the European Union on July 1, 2013 which has brought Croatia back to the European mainstream where it always belonged, is only to going to make stronger the existing ties between Croatia and Canada.
Numerous and well established, the Croatian Community in Canada is the best guarantee for further success in developing our bilateral cooperation in all fields. According to the unofficial census data from 2011, there are 114.800 Croatians living in Canada. Most of them are concentrated in the larger urban areas of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and other urban centers. Canadian Croatians have steadfastly contributed to the growth and prosperity of the Republic of Croatia. They they have been unremittingly dedicated to strengthening the friendship and collaboration between our two countries in all areas. I am proud to highlight the example of the Embassy building in Ottawa that was purchased and completely reconstructed by the Croatian community in Canada in order to provide a new and beautiful home for the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia.
More and more Canadians are choosing Croatia as their holiday destination. We would like to see even more Canadian tourists, returning to become the best promoters of Croatia, its natural beauty, cultural heritage, culinary art and friendliness of its citizens.
