A traditional Christmas celebration for the Croatian community was organized at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, on December 16th, 2006. Over 100 members of the Croatian community attended the gathering as well as representatives of the parish and various Croatian associations from Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto.
The Ambassador, H.E. Vesela Mrden Korac, in her welcome speech expressed her recognition for the support and collaboration of the Croatian community throughout the year and informed the guests of the significant achievements of the Embassy on the subject of politics, economy, culture and consular affairs. In 2006, success was achieved in the overall development of the Croatian Canadian bilateral relations, were she particularly emphasized the exchange of bilateral high level political visits and the recent successfully completed negotiations of the Air Traffic Agreement. As a Christmas present, the Ambassador announced to the guests, the Embassy's new website with the information about Croatia, Canada, the bilateral relations and consular work which is of great interest to the Croatian community.
The goal of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia is to strengthen the collaboration between the Republic of Croatia and Canada, where considerate attention is given to intensify the connection between the Croatian Community in Canada and the Republic of Croatia. Certainly the strongest tie between each member of the Croatian community and their homeland is the Croatian citizenship. On this occasion, the Ambassador presented the Decision of Acceptance to Croatian Citizenship to five new citizens from the city of Ottawa and Montreal.
Towards the end of the evening's program, Mr. Frank Jankach, General Secretary of the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce of Toronto, presented a plaque to instate the Ambassador as honorary member of the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
